BEIJING (AP) — China protested Wednesday versus the sailing of a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer by means of the Taiwan Strait the preceding working day, accusing the American side of hyping the maneuver.
The Navy’s Japan-dependent 7th Fleet explained late Tuesday that the passing of the USS Sampson via the 160-kilometer- (100-mile-) wide waterway involving Taiwan and China “demonstrates the United States’ dedication to a free of charge and open Indo-Pacific.”
Senior Colonel Shi Yi, a Chinese armed forces spokesperson, claimed the U.S. had “publicly hyped” the move.
“The recurrent provocations of the U.S. have sent the completely wrong signals to ‘Taiwan independence’ forces and deliberately undermined peace and security in the Taiwan Strait,” Shi said in a statement. “We firmly oppose it.”
China claims Taiwan as aspect of its territory and says the self-governing island need to arrive under its rule. It on a regular basis denounces U.S. assist for Taiwan, like product sales of armed service machines to increase its protection and visits by American lawmakers and other govt officials.

Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for China’s Taiwan Affairs Workplace, claimed China opposes any kind of military services ties among Taiwan and the U.S.
